The latest luncheon hosted by the Woman’s Club held Wednesday at the Marco Island Yacht Club was a special one.
The members got to meet the recipients of the scholarship funds and heard their plans for college.
This year, the Education Committee headed by Lorraine Rodgers, a past president of the Club, along with Kay Ferraro, Evelyn McDowell and Arleen Soldano, met and interviewed several students at Lely High who had applied for the scholarship money ($1,000 per semester times four.)
Each student had extensive paperwork submitted for consideration along with being personally interviewed by the committee. Five outstanding students were selected. They are Sara Robinson, Molly Bogdan, Jeffrey Lee Foley, Stephanie West and Lindsay Bott.
All of them, with the exception of Foley who was studying for exams, were present at the luncheon.
Peg Reale, director of guidance, was also a guest.
In a recent press release, the Club stated they are very proud of the work they do for the community and especially of the young students they assist with the rising costs of college. In addition to the scholarship fund, the Club also donated monies to the Historical Society, Angel Flight, Youth Haven and Shelter for Abused Women and Children.
The installation of new officers for 2008 - 2009 is as follows: President Arleen Soldano; VP Sue Purvis; Secretary Edythe Newbourne; Corresponding Secretary, Sharon Blow; Treasurer, Priscilla Penn and Assistant Treasurer, Lynne Minozzi.
The Club is already planning for the new year with their first meeting Oct. 1, which will also celebrate Octoberfest.
Upcoming special events are the “Elegant Home Tour” on Jan. 16 and a special “Cards and Games” luncheon with a Chinese auction planned for Feb. 20.
Membership is open to women living on Marco Island. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month at the Marco Island Yacht Club. For more information and membership, call Vini Just at 394-3635.

Instead of all these lunches wouldn't the time be better if that time was spent doing some house work? You know ironing, cooking, laundry, mopping, and on, and on ,and on.
