The cost of sunshine just went up 50 cents an hour.

Naples City Council unanimously this morning approved an ordinance that would increase parking meter fees by 50 cents an hour. The meter change could go into effect as early as the end of October.

After a discussion with Collier County officials, city staff determined the best option would be to increase meter rates from 25 cents for 15 minutes to 25 cents for 10 minutes. That means an hour at a meter will cost $1.50, compared to $1.

The meter increase will not impact residents who use beach parking stickers.

Increasing the fees would mean a $100,000 bump in revenue, said Finance Director Ann Marie Ricardi.
