— Marco Island Police detectives sought help Monday to solve a burglary from a home construction site that occurred on the island Saturday afternoon.

Within one hour of the story and photos being posted on local news sites, the police department already had the suspect’s name, said Capt. Dave Baer.

Joel Moskowitz, 48, of 479 Marquesas Court, Marco Island turned himself in after hearing of the news, police said.

“This is a perfect example of how media partners with law enforcement to help solve crime,” Baer said.

Police reported missing items from a home construction site at 473 Parkhouse Court around 2:30 p.m., Saturday.

A press release was sent early Monday evening by City of Marco Island Public Information Coordinator Lisa Douglass seeking the public’s help in identifying a person of interest in the incident.

The photographs and descriptions of the vehicle and the person of interest caused Marco Island Police Detective Glenn Zirgibel to receive more than a dozen calls Monday evening Baer said.

He added that the value of the stolen property is still being calculated, but estimated it was worth $100 to $300.

Congratulations Joel !
You just made it to Marco's Dumbest Criminals. I guess the unlicensed contractor, restauranteur and passing bad checks thing didn't pan out so you tried your hand at petty theft and failed miserably at that too. The fact that it was only $100 - $300 makes it that much more funny.
Thanks for the last laugh.

I find it interesting that the name, as published in the printed edition, is not the same name as here. Who is Marvin Maskowitz, as printed ?? They, the Eagle, should probably print a correction on Friday.

I feel sorry for Joel's sister! Because of her brothers actions, she is terribly embarrassed. Love ya girl!

There's another one of Marco's finest criminals. They make the job of the police so easy. From what it seems, this guy is America's Worst Criminal. Give it up, your not criminal material, you get caught every time.
