Cyberbidding

Always pushing the innovative envelope, popular Marco Island artist Malenda Trick is putting one of her works up for auction online.

The painting is Trick’s take on the Church of Santa Maria della Salute on the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy.

Bids (the reserve price is $3,000) can be submitted by e-mailing Trick at clark@malendatrick.com.

Bids should include the bidder’s name, address, contact number and, of course, the amount bid.

Respondents will be notified of other bid amounts, but all identities will be protected.

How flies the Eagle

People wishing to learn more about how newspapers (and the Marco Eagle in particular) choose and disseminate news, can do so by attending the next In the Round lecture session.

Hosted as usual by Orion Bank, the Sept. 15 (Monday evening) session will cover topics such as accuracy and how local journalists know whom to trust as news sources, among others.

In addition, the seminar will take a look at the future of print and online news, as well as invite suggestions for improvement.

Handling the Q&A side of the discussion will be Phil Lewis, editor and vice president of editorial, Naples Daily News; Bob Sandy, Eagle general manager-Scripps Southwest Florida customer relations manager; Russell Tuff, executive editor of community publications, Scripps Southwest Florida, and Bill Green, editor of the Marco Eagle and marconews.com.

The Marco Eagle was founded in 1968, and is described in a promotional flyer for the seminar by bank manager Keith Dameron as “the connective tissue that has helped make Marco a cohesive community for much of its 40-year history.”

The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments, kicks off at 7 p.m., and runs through 8 p.m. with questions and answers thereafter.

Call 403-5169 for reservations, which are imperative.

Two Bentleys, please, and keep the change

New car buyers in a position to ignore price tags and pain at the pump can now browse an expanded Naples high end dealership targeting communities from Sarasota down to Marco Island.

Naples Luxury Imports recently upgraded their facility to include eight luxury stables, including Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Land Rover and Jaguar.

Publicist Cindy Dobyns said part of the pampering includes a paved service drop-off area leading to a customer lounge and Wi-Fi café.

Phase one of the project was recently completed, with an early 2009 completion on target.

Play golf for points

Golfers should perk up with the announcement by a major hotel chain of a points system that rewards them for playing at its courses and buying merchandise.

Called the Marriott Golf Links Earn & Redeem program, it awards points for plays at 20 Marriott-managed golf clubs worldwide.

These points can be redeem for rounds of golf, hotel accommodation, spa visits and golf instruction, for example.

The program includes the Rookery at Marco, the golf course affiliated with the Marco Island Marriott Resort.

Hotel stays are not required.

The guest loyalty program Marriott Rewards already has 30 million members, including an estimated 5 million golfers, according to a company release.

The new program enables participants to earn 10 Marriott Rewards points for every dollar spent on rounds of golf and the purchase of merchandise at participating golf clubs.

Clubs include La Iguana GC at Costa Rica, Doral Golf Resort in Miami, Shadow Ridge Golf Club in Palm Desert, Ca., and Seaview Golf Resort in Atlantic City, NJ.
