Letter to the editor: Open letter to city manager

Dear Mr. Thompson: As the newest member of our city government, I would like to suggest that you reconsider your request to add employees.

As the new kid on the block you have two choices;

1. You can come into power and demand we increase spending, which sends the message that you have careless disregard for the citizens of Marco Island who overwhelmingly do not want bigger government, or;

2. You can assume your new position and take a reasonable period of time to observe the workings of our city government to determine if we need new employees. If you take the time to study our needs, you may well conclude that we can operate efficiently with less employees.

In these tough times, a truly good city manager will make due with less, and still get the job done.

Remember, you have only one opportunity to make a good first impression on the citizens of Marco Island. I sincerely hope you don’t blow the opportunity.

Respectfully.

Dale Nicholas, Marco Island
