Citing the importance of family support in a job that involves erratic hours and sacrifices in times of crises, Marco Island Police Chief Thom Carr on Aug. 29 promoted three of his men at a well-attended ceremony in the city’s community hall.
They were Dave Baer (Captain), Pete Beucler (Lieutenant) and George Williams (Corporal), who received their pins to the enthusiastic applause of Police Foundation supporters, family members and city officials including manager Steve Thompson.
Each of the three men acknowledged Carr’s observations about family support, but also made a point of saying how important team work is in the police department.
This was echoed by their colleagues during and after the ceremony in the form of cheers and handshakes.
The shuffle came in the wake of Carr’s own recent promotion to police chief, following the move by former chief Roger Reinke to Naples and the position of assistant city manager there.
