Blood, marrow drive Monday in Naples for Estero teen

A blood and bone marrow drive will be held Monday in Naples in hopes of finding a match for a 15-year-old Estero teen who needs a bone marrow transplant against a life-threatening illness.

The blood and bone marrow drive will be held at the Community Blood Center’s support service center at 2157 Pine Ridge Road from noon to 5:30 p.m. The blood center’s service location is adjacent to the Home Depot.

Kenny Conidaris, has been trying to find a bone marrow match for several years to cure his severe aplastic anemia and the need has become more urgent.

Blood donations will be collected at the event and people are encouraged to sign up to be potential bone marrow donors to help Kenny and other patients in need of a transplant.

Because tissue types are inherited and patients are more likely to match with the same ethnicity, one hope is that more people of Greek heritage would step forward to become a potential bone marrow donor for Kenny.

For more information, call the blood center at 436-5203 or go to NCHmd.org.

The Conidaris family has a Web site at Caringbridge.org. Type in his Web site name of kennyconidaris11 to access his own Web page.
