Lely High’s top three scores beat the best score by a Golden Gate player as the Trojans evened its season record to 1-1.
Geoff Stephenson was medalist with a low score of 38 for the nine-hole match. He was followed by teammate Tim Prior, 42, Ethan Hilliard, 44 and Greg Hauze, 47, for a team total of 171.
Wesley Bucham led Golden Gate, shooting 45, followed by Chris Torres, 55, Ben Whitter, 57 and Michael Spano, 57, for a total of 214.
Lely’s Roger Kindinger filled in for Coach Kim Francisco, whose father died on Sunday.
“The kids did what they needed to do to win,” Kindinger said. “Geoff strikes the ball well. His brother (freshman) Todd has promise and should be playing well by the end of the season.”
Todd shot 50, while fellow freshman Trevor Conte shot 64. Only the top four scores for each team counted.
