MARCO ISLAND Two people were taken to the hospital Sunday evening after their wave runner crashed into the mangroves near Keewaydin Island, just off Marco Island.
A 38-year-old man was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition, while a 23-year-old woman was taken to Naples Community Hospital in downtown Naples in stable condition.
Both were riding a wave runner before the accident, but Marco Island Fire Rescue Battalion Commander Donnie Jones said neither passenger was in the condition to provide any details about the accident.
The accident happened around 7:30 p.m., and both Marco and Isles of Capri fire departments responded. The two victims were taken by boat to Isles of Capri where they had a rendezvous with the medflight helicopter.
Neither victim could be identified, nor details given about their injuries, because of privacy laws.
