It won’t be the Tour de France, but Islanders certainly will get cardiovascular exercise in the new indoor cycling classes, which begin on Monday at the YMCA.
The YMCA has developed a new position, health and fitness coordinator, which Jennifer Bristow, formerly with the Tampa YMCA, fills. She also will serve as a personal trainer.
“Cycling classes will focus on a cardiovascular workout,” Bristow said. “As tension is added to the bike it also will become a way to strengthen your legs.”
Classes will be held in a newly-painted room and music will be added for an upbeat mood.
“I support the YMCA philosophy of providing quality services to all members, including not turning away people because of program cost.”
The YMCA has a scholarship program that comes through donations to help people and families take part in the diversified YMCA programs.
