NAPLES A 61-year-old man was jailed Monday after police officers say he stalked a woman and was looking through windows of her Marco Island condominium.
Daniel J. Chapple, 591 Seaview Court, Unit A-109, Marco Island, was charged with one count of stalking.
On Monday afternoon Alison Carr told Marco Island police that while taking her laundry to the laundry room, she observed a man in a green Hyundai in the parking lot next to her building, police reported. Carr recognized the man as the same person who had been looking in the windows of her building last week.
When Carr left the laundry room, the Hyundai began following her through the parking lot, reports said.
At that point, Carr dropped her laundry basket and ran to a friend’s unit in another building. The Hyundai drove away, police said.
When Carr and her friend came back out to pick up the laundry basket, the Hyundai returned to the lot. Carr yelled at the driver, later identified as Chapple, that she had his license tag and was calling police.
Chapple again left the area, reports said.
Carr told police that Chapple was walking around her building last week looking into windows and doors, authorities said. Chapple repeatedly walked past Carr’s unit, attempting to look inside, reports said.
When Carr confronted Chapple at the time, he left immediately.
Police located Chapple at home Monday and questioned him about his behavior, reports said. Police arrested him when they found his statements were inconsistent with his actions, and determined Chapple had no legitimate reason to be at the condominium.
