Swerving to avoid hitting another vehicle, Gregory Mann’s SUV comes to a halt after hitting a coconut tree at 1060 San Marco Road late Monday morning. Mann, an Island resident, said he walked away with little more than a scratch from his wrist watch.
MARCO ISLAND — The Marco Eagle learned of a “car versus house at 1060 San Marco Road” over a police, fire scanner at about 10 a.m. Monday morning.
Marco Islander Gregory Mann held out his arm and showed the one scratch caused by his watch scraping his wrist.
“I was coming down this way,” Mann said indicating he was driving south on San Marco Road.
“Then a car came right out in front of me. I swerved quickly. Never had a chance to hit my brakes... I know the people who own this house,” Mann added.
The residents of the San Marco Road house were not home at the time of the accident.
Mann narrowly missed the side of the house, coming to an abrupt stop after crashing instead into a coconut tree.
Just as Mann was about to get out of his SUV, a coconut came crashing down on his hood, he said.
Luckily, Mann was wearing a seat belt and no serious injuries were reported.
A crash report was not immediately available and estimated damage to the vehicle is not yet known. The driver who reportedly cut Mann off, did not stop. Descriptions of that vehicle driver and vehicle are not currently available.
Marco Island Fire Rescue officials worked to secure the scene, removing the battery from the Blue Marlin Marine Construction work vehicle. Mann was treated at the scene.
