Letters to the editor: April 8

Mother Nature and Human Nature, frequently in conflict, are still at odds trying to decide where to build the proposed Red Sox stadium.

We know the stadium would be an economic boon, but must it also be an environmental disaster?

It is disingenuous indeed to call into argument we live in areas that should have been left untouched and undeveloped. No one is in favor of destroying more of the environment once having degraded it from its pristine state.

But, commercial development followed and Bonita Springs/Estero prospered.

Developed areas are maintained. We’ve done much to preserve, protect and encourage this indigenous Southwest Florida topography. We care passionately for our forested preserves and our stocked lakes. Wildlife abounds in natural habitats. What’s been mistakenly called a ‘nightmare’ is accurately, to us, a ‘paradise’.

The Edison Farms proposal represents too much of a sacrifice from an environmental perspective. But, we have options. The Waterman site, for example, with less environmental impact should be considered.

It’s hardly helpful to ridicule and mock. Our desires are the same, protect our environment, yet improve our economy. So let’s play ball together. There’s room for man and nature to thrive.

RE: An open letter to the City Council.

To the City Council;

It’s time that congratulations are in order on not one but two very important issues.

The E-Verify system and Lowe’s Home Center. In each case it’s a plus for the people and the city of Bonita Springs.

I can’t remember when a break of the “gang of four” took place on two issues.

If I had anything to do with decision making on Lowe’s I would have kissed off Bonita Springs several years ago. What this company had to do just to get the ok to build its store is unbelievable.

Why Mr. McCourt would take a bye on the E-Verify System it exempts zero to 5,000 in a contract. It should star at Zero. (Shades of Max Davis). The next step is to expand it to every business in Bonita Springs.

Once again I thank you and the citizens of Bonita Springs thank you.

Congratulations are in order to Jesus and Moses for still having us honor them after all these years.

Moses for leading his people out of Egypt (Passover) and of course Jesus for dieing and being resurrected on our behalf (Easter).

In spite of these miraculous feats, the Easter Bunny is killing both Jesus and Moses in gross sales.

They offering eternal life and peace through faith, love and good deeds.

The Easter Bunny is countering with chocolate and marshmallow eggs along with jelly beans.

The Bunny’s greeting cards alone are outselling Jesus and Moses cards 20 to one!

I don’t quite understand how the bunny got such a big share of the market in the first place. Don’t get me wrong I love the bunny and Easter basket idea, especially the chocolate eggs.

If you are happy with the bunny’s superior sales just ignore this message, they are going to get even bigger.

If on the other hand if you would like to level the playing field a little, explain to the children what Easter and Passover are all about. Tell them they can celebrate Easter and Passover and still have the Easter Bunny bring those baskets.

Santa I’ll deal with you later!
