30 YEARS

Marco Island resale and condominium market value continues very strong, with sales records reaching new highs for the first quarter of 1979. Robert Clark, vice president of A.G. Ennis Realty, said 1978 was a banner year and 1979 is starting out even better. Home sales are up 25 percent and the average sales price has climbed to $102,000.

The driest spring in 40 years and the high demand for water have combined to torment Marco Island Utilities. The average daily use for the first week of April reached 4.1 million gallons, compared to 2.3 million gallons a year ago. A Deltona spokesman said a request to double the Marco Island water treatment plant from 4.2 million gallons a day to 8 million gallons will be delivered to the state this week.

A year ago the Collier County Commission was against a bike path on Marco Island, citing expensive rights-of-way costs. Now the commissioners want to consider a two-mile bike path from Old Marco Village to Samoa Drive, the original proposal made a year ago by resident Jeanne Remaks. The money will come as part of a $5 million bond sale for county road improvements.

Islander Carol Klotz, competing in her first South Florida Swimming Championship, set a record in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 1:01.8
