DaVinci’s shakes up men’s softball

DaVinci’s took over third place and is a game out of second place in the City Men’s Softball League.

In the last two weeks, DaVinci’s won by forfeit over St. Mark’s and downed Nacho Mama’s, while St. Mark’s also lost to Cocomo’s to drop to fourth place. With Joey’s Pizza surprising Almost Famous Mel’s, DaVinci’s moved within one game of Mel’s.

Here are the results from the past two weeks, in order of games played.

Mel’s downs Capt. Brien’s, 15-13

In a tight game, Mel’s Justin Hanna, Pat McGuire, and Jason Berning knocked out three hits each, with Berning blasting a home run. Brian Kocak and Greg St. Amour knocked out two hits each.

Capt. Brien’s was led by Jimmy Bonfitto, Joe Valencic, and Ricky Hart, slapping out three hits.

Cocomo’s defeats

Nacho Mama’s, 28-19

In a slugfest, Cocomo’s was led by Neil Alberry, with five hits, Scott Gibbs and Mike Watkins with four hits, Brian Day with three and Davie Rice, Niels Stone and Sean Shea with two hits each. Shea and Stone slammed home runs.

Nacho’s hitting leaders were Jeff Smith, with three hits and Vip Grover and Dave DeCrow with two hits each.

DaVinci’s beats

Nacho Mama’s, 17-9

Mike Graczyk ripped five hits, while DaVinci’s teammates Travis Ballenger, Bobby Natalie Jr., Mark Feola Sr. scattered three hits each and Mike Radlovacki, Mark Feola Jr., and Bob Natalie Sr. had two hits each.

Jeff Smith and Eddie Walsh led Nacho’s with two hits each.

The standings show Cocomo’s in the lead with a 11-1 mark, Mel’s, 10-3, DaVinci’s. 9-4, St. Mark’s, 7-5, Joey’s Pizza, 3-9 and Nacho Mama’s and Capt. Brien’s, 2-10 each.

Thursday’s games has Cocomo’s and Mel’s at 6:15 p.m., Nacho Mama’s and Capt. Brien’s, 7:30 and St. Mark’s and Joey’s Pizza at 8:45.

Joey’s surprises Mel’s, 21-15

Joey’s, 3-9 on the season, knocked off 10-3 Mel’s.

Joey’s Steve Pahr, Joe Oliverio, Tony Oliverio, Vince Gentile and Charlie Holder each had three hits, while Santo Gentile added two.

Mel’s Brad Frazier rapped out four hits, including two home runs, while Justin Hanna had two hits and Jason Berning slammed a home run.

Cocomo’s defeats

St. Mark’s, 27-8

First-place Cocmo’s was led by Dave Rice with four hits, while Wes Alberry, Scott Gibbs, Kevin Hennings, and Sean Shea knocked out three hits each and Curt Witthoff and Neil Alberry had two hits each.

Leading St. Mark’s was Patrick Baldwin, Mark Canaday and Donny Montroy with two hits each, with Montroy crushing a home run.
