The Gulf Coast swim team has joined with the Golden Gate Aquatic Center to offer a new swim team option for Collier County youth. The Gulf Coast Swim Team-Golden Gate Branch will now offer teams for swimmers from the Novice to Championship levels.

Practice runs from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and times are scheduled depending on the child’s swim level. Beginner, intermediate and advanced swim levels are offered.

The coach heading up the new team is Jennifer Weir, Lely High assistant swim team coach. She is a former state champion in the 200-meter individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.

Weir earned a full swimming scholarship to the University of Miami where she was the Big East champion in the 200 IM and the 200 freestyle. She also was an Olympic Trial qualifier in 2000.

The Gulf Coast Swim Team-Golden Gate Branch recently competed in its first meet at the Gulf Coast Swim Team’s South Florida Winter Invitational at FGCU. The team will be traveling to Sarasota this month to compete in the Area 3-5 Championships.

For more information on the new swim team, contact the Golden Gate Aquatic Center at 353-7128 or call Weir at 776-9348. More information about the Gulf Coast Swim Team is available online at gcst.org.
