The Magic Moments are playing this Sunday, April 26, at Marco Island Residents' Beach.

Please don’t forget that this Sunday is the closing concert of the 2008-2009 season at the Marco Island Residents’ Beach. Magic Moments will take the stage at 5 p.m. for the final concert of the year. On Marco Island we are surrounded by so many wonderful musicians and four more will put their talent on display at the Robert Sessions Pavilion on Sunday. Magic Moments will play all your favorite fifties and early sixties tunes and are sure to get you up and on your feet before you can sing, “this magic moment...”

Magic Moments has been together for seven years and currently performs at Norm’s in Naples and other locales. You may also remember the group from Vandy’s and Front Street in years past. They have opened for Danny and the Juniors and Chubby Checker. Brothers, Tim and James Smith, are originally from Dayton, Ohio. Tim plays the drums and vocals and James strums the guitar and does vocals as well. John Overly plays the bass guitar and is the lead vocalist and hails from Athens, Ohio. The group is rounded out by Michael Nardi, who plays the piano/keyboards, moved from the Bronx, N.Y., and spent eight years with The Classics.

The Marco Island Civic Association presented a very diverse selection of music this year, beginning with Jim Long on bongos; to the sixties group “The Tokens” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”; to blues players “Little Eddie and the Fat Fingers”; to local greats J Robert, Janet Poole, Frank Carroll, Steve Reynolds, “Jamaica Dave” Walker, and Tony Pastrana, who took part in our Island Celebration; and to the wonderful young talent of the Lely High School Jazz Band. A sensational season of talent was presented for the listening pleasure of Residents’ Beach members!

You’re not a Residents’ Beach member? Well, look what you’ve been missing these last several months. Improved property owners on Marco Island and those who rent for one month or longer on Marco are eligible to join. Don’t delay another moment. Call 642-7778 for information.

We’re already planning for next year and have a real good feel for what our members want to hear. So stay tuned for the lineup for next season!

Speaking of how our members feel, the MICA membership survey revealed a total satisfaction rate of 96.7 percent with the appearance and maintenance of Residents’ Beach (75.3 percent “very satisfied” and 21.4 percent ‘satisfied’). I might be a little biased, but I think the Residents’ Beach manager, Dennis McCann, does a super job, and it appears that the members are in agreement.

Members were equally pleased with the professionalism of the Residents’ Beach Gate Attendants with 65.1 percent “very satisfied” and 28.4 percent “satisfied.” MICA has a fine group of individuals dedicated to the membership.

The survey results are printed in their entirety in the April edition of the MICAWAVE. As always, because many of the questions dealt with city-related issues, the survey results have been shared with the Marco Island City Council members and city staff. The Marco Island Civic Association thanks our members for their speedy response and for their input on very important topics that will soon be addressed by our representatives on City Council.
