Brian Newman of Estero has been named the recipient of the South Florida PGA Professional Golf Management (PGM) Scholarship at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Newman was selected by the South Florida PGA Scholarship Committee as the 2009 recipient of the $2,500 scholarship. Newman will enter his senior year of studies this fall, and will be interning with TPC Sawgrass during his spring semester.
Since 2008, Newman has been employed as the assistant golf professional at Del Tura Country Club in Fort Myers. In July of 2007, Newman passed his Players Ability Test, and has since continued to progress through the PGM program while also getting involved in PGA of America growth of the game programs and initiatives.
Newman has had the opportunity to be on the front line during two South Florida PGA Play Golf America Days as well as Del Tura’s First Annual Family Golf Day. He has also volunteered countless hours to the Florida Gulf Coast University PGM Programs, including participation on a panel during the program’s accreditation, and is the future President of the Florida Gulf Coast University PGM Club.
When Newman is not studying or working he enjoys playing competitive golf in the local Southwest Florida PGA Chapter, South Florida PGA Section and PGM Tournament Series events.
