The Marco Eagles football teams are settling out as they ready for the Sept. 12 season opener.
It was to have been at Winterberry Park, but it looks more like Lely High Trojan Stadium.
The sod for the new Winterberry football and soccer field was laid on Aug. 19 and the heavy rains have helped, but it looks like the field won’t be ready for use for the four games to be played.
“Most likely we will open the season at Lely,” Greg West, league president said. “We are completing the drafts for the teams, with two Pee Wee, a Junior and Senior team. Overall we will have about 110 players and some 30 to 40 cheerleaders.”
Football practices are from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Cheerleading ;practice is 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, and 9 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday. All practices are at Mackle Park.
