Join the Art League Marco Island’s Center for the Arts as they host three fabulous holiday trunk shows on the first three Thursdays of December. Each event will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the McFarland Atrium Gallery and Gift Shop located inside the Art League.
The shows kick off with a special artist signing by Malenda Trick of her uniquely designed Santa figurines; followed by the unveiling of Yvonne Feaveayear’s “Towdah Collection” and closing with the annual Jewelry trunk show featuring Joni Gotthelf and Babs Snyderman. Free gift wrap will be provided with all purchases. Admission to these events is free.
A “trunk show” is a special promotion presenting specially selected items for purchase. In the case of these fabulous holiday trunk shows, the Art League has carefully selected featured artists who will be on hand for one evening only with a unique collection of their original designs and art works for sale.
The first trunk to open will be delivered by local artist and Art League member Malenda Trick as she celebrates Marco Christmas. Malenda Trick is the designer of two great Santa figurines from Department 56 Possible Dreams collection.
“Santa Cheeseburger in Paradise” from the Santa by the Sea Collection boasts how Santa is never crabby when he’s at the beach basking in the sun. He enjoys this season with a tropical drink in his hand and his toes in the sand. From the Celtic Santa Collection there is “Santa Pot O’ Gold.”
Santa shows off his Irish spirit in the Celtic Collection. Dressed in green (and sometimes plaid), Santa sports his colors proudly. Made from Clothique, a blend of stiffened hand sewn cloth along with carefully hand painted resin, each piece has been created with exquisite detail and expertise and measure at 12” high. No 2 pieces are exactly alike. There will be some variations in fabrics, painting and component details. But making this a true one of a kind collectable is the artist herself will be on hand to sign your Santa with purchase. This is an exclusive offer through the partnership of Malenda Trick and the Art League. Only 20 Santas will be available.
Coming from trunk number two, Dec. 10 is a collection of paintings by Yvonne Feavearyear, “Towdah Collection.”
“Towdah” is one of the seven Hebrew words used to describe “Praise.” Towdah literally means an extension of the hand in adoration, avowal, or acceptance. The artist tells us that this series of figurative representations portray her perception of Faith and Worship among woman.
“I want my large canvases with bold patterns, vibrant colors and representational characters to bring a sense of joy, peace and love; light heartedness and fun to the viewer.”
This special exhibit will be on hand for one week only through Dec. 16 in the Charles & Gretchen Horn Studio. It is a partnership with Kathleen Amantea Douglas, owner of Amantea Gallery and member of the Art League.
The final trunk will unlock every women’s dream and make gift giving easy for the men who want to show their special ladies just how much they care. Yes, Dec. 17, will feature the return of our annual jewelry trunk show. A special collection of original jewelry designs by Art League members Joni Gotthelf and Babs Snyderman will be on hand. Inspiration can come from many places, but a true artist derives it from something that is very personal and intangible.
Joni Gotthelf is one such artist whose inspiration comes from a basic understanding and deep appreciation of color. From the soft golden hues of a mountain sunset to the brilliant color rainbows of Colorado wildflowers, Joni sees her jewelry designs evolve in the free-flowing technique of dropping colors together as the piece comes to life. She creates elegant and dramatic jewelry that is unforgettable and never duplicated. Color intensifies some of the most satisfying experiences of your life and wearing the designs of Joni Gotthelf places you into those moments forever. Babs Snyderman returns for a second year with her spiritually inspired jewelry designs. Babs states since the dawn of time, man has identified himself by what he wears. The old adage “you are what you wear” has always applied. Her designs integrate old world knowledge with contemporary vision in beautiful one of a kind jewelry and accessories. A great collection of must see works.
