World renowned marine enthusiast and artist Guy Harvey will visit the Guy Harvey’s Island Grill on Friday, Dec. 4. Harvey will meet and greet local residents, signing artwork and merchandise from 6 to 9 p.m. The Marco Island location exudes a casual, yet upscale nautical atmosphere and is accented by an extensive collection of artwork by Guy Harvey.

Harvey’s visit coincides with an expansion announcement for the seafood restaurant. In addition to the Marco Island eatery, Guy Harvey’s Island Grill has three other locations currently open in Key West, Panama City Beach and Orange Beach, Ala. The newest location in Ocala, is scheduled to open its doors in March 2010.

Passionately devoted to the preservation and management of marine environments, Guy Harvey is a unique blend of artist, scientist, diver, angler, conservationist, and explorer. His restaurants and their seafood selections reflect Harvey’s commitment to the ocean environment. Guy Harvey’s Island Grill features a wide variety of local catches such as: Wahoo, tuna, snapper, and dolphin fish (mahi). The restaurants do not serve any overexploited or threatened species such as: swordfish, grouper, shark or billfish.

Harvey began his career as a marine scientist, ultimately transferring his love of aquatic life onto canvas and into sculpture form. His vibrant depictions of underwater seascapes have been reproduced as prints, in books, and on T-shirts which are available online at www.guyharveysislandgrill.net/OnlineStore.html and at shops inside all of his restaurants.

Harvey supports research and educational programs that encourage marine conservation through The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, which he founded. He was inducted into the 2009 International Game Fish Association Hall of Fame which is comprised of 80 fishing personalities, including writer Ernest Hemingway. In addition, Harvey has a television documentary in the works. For the project, he and his crew spent hours diving with sharks in the Bahamas.

Guy Harvey’s Island Grill is located at The Esplanade, 760 N. Collier Blvd., Suite 109, Marco Island. It is open daily for lunch and dinner. Menus are available online at www.guyharveysislandgrill.net.
