Cape soldier died while serving in Iraq

— A Cape Coral soldier died in Iraq while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to the Department of Defense.

Pfc. Derrick D. Gwaltney, 21, died November 29 south of Basra, Iraq.

The DoD says his injuries were sustained from a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 377th Field Artillery Regiment, 17th Fires Brigade, Fort Lewis, Washington.
