Jack and Barbara Markel of Marco Island celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. The couple were wed on Aug. 29, 1959 in Tiffin, Ohio.
Jack and Barb moved the family many times with Jack’s career with American Water Works. They lived in California, New Mexico, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Florida. In 2002 they retired on Marco Island and have been full-time residents ever since.
Jack and Barb are active members of many local philanthropic and social organizations. In their spare time they love to paint, create art glass, and travel the country, often visiting their grandchildren.
Their five children: Cindy, of McKinney, Texas; Matt, of The Woodlands, Texas; Todd, of Boca Raton; Scott, of Oakmont, Pennsylvania; Anne, of Marlton, New Jersey; and their 16 loving grandchildren invite all of the Markel’s friends and acquaintances to raise a toast to a lifelong commitment to family that has been an inspiration to all those who know them.
The entire Markel Family celebrated Jack and Barb’s 50 years of marriage in Ocean City, New Jersey, the site of many memorable family vacations past.
