MARCO ISLAND — Happy New Year! If that was all I wrote, it would be a short column, wouldn’t it? However, my mission is to report to you the happenings at your Greater Marco Family YMCA.
The second week of Holiday Camp was concluded with happy campers, smiling faces and plenty of experiences to remember or years to come. A special salute goes out to all the camp counselors who did another amazing job with the camp participants.
January 2010 at the Y will prove to be an exciting month, as many new programs will be offered to the public and Y members. Here is the list of programs for you to enroll for and enjoy:
Mah Jongg for Beginners- Jan. 4; Adult Computer Classes – Intro to Computers – Jan. 12; Spanish for Adults – Beginners- Jan.-5; Spanish for Adults – Advanced – Jan. 7; Flag Football for 5-7 years – Jan. 4; Gymnastics for ages 3 –16- Jan. 5; and Irish Step Dance for Children and Adults – Jan. 7. The only afternoon bingo on Marco Island starts Jan. 5.
An adult social dance is scheduled for Friday night, Jan. 29, in the Y Gym. I will be the DJ and play all those great oldies and fun specialty songs, like Electric Slide, Cha Cha Slide and others. $10 gets you in the door. Fun fact: Did you know that 2010 is the 20th year of the Y Aquatic Center? Second fun fact: Miss Dottie is still at the Y!
We need you to help the Greater Marco Family YMCA. Help us build strong kids by supporting the “Y Strong Kids Campaign.” Help us provide financial assistance and scholarships to the underprivileged and unserved children in out community. Annual Support Campaign contributions help the Y provide programs and services to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. The 2010 annual Support Campaign Goal is $180,000. Please drop off your contribution at the customer service desk.
Mark your calendar for Family Fun Day, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16. Come join us at the Naples Daily News facility on Immokalee Road for music, food, drink, games and tours of their new building. Hope to see you there and of course, at the Greater Marco Family YMCA.
