— City of Marco Island and Marco Community Bank officials met at the Racquet Center 1 p.m. Monday for a formal check presentation.

The City of Marco Island Racquet Center staff each year present a program to instruct local children in the techniques of tennis. Limited funding has put an additional strain on the programs the center can offer. This year, the City’s Kids Tennis program will begin 4 p.m. January 12. The program will be subsidized entirely by Marco Community Bank, our only Hometown Bank.

The City Kids Tennis program is a wonderful opportunity for Marco Island children to experience the game of tennis at a reduced cost. This six week program is subsidized by the Marco Community Bank and organized by the Racquet Center pro Wayne Clark.

Tennis instruction will be divided into four basic skill divisions which allows children to progress at their own pace. The cost is $40/for a child that lives on Marco Island and $70 for a child that does not live on Marco Island.

The six week program begins on January 12th and continues through February 20th. The specific schedule is as follows:

Ages 4-6

Monday 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Wednesday 4 p.m. to 4:45 pm

Ages 6-8

Tuesday 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Thursday, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Ages 7-10

Tuesday 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Thursday 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Ages 10-11

Monday 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Wednesday 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Thanks so much to Marco Community Bank for this generous donation. City Kids' Tennis is a wonderful program, and it was one of the first programs I was honored to vote on when I was first a city councilor in 2002. Kelly Townsend was my daughter's first coach and was wonderful. Coach Wayne took over and was great, and he is still our Island kids' coach. Thanks again MCB for stepping up to the plate to be sure that our City Kids' will continue to have this great quality program.
