The Lauritzen/Rush Galleries of the Art League, Marco Island’s Center for the Arts, presents “Art Noveau” a fine art exhibition featuring works by Past Award Recipients of the Art League’s Scholarship Program.

The exhibit opens July 14 with a reception from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. This is the public’s chance to meet young aspiring artists as they pursue their professional careers.

After 25 years of hosting a scholarship program, in 2008 the Art League Marco Island’s Center for the Arts implemented this special opportunity for past award winners to exhibit and sell their original works. In its inaugural year, three aspiring artists took advantage of this new opportunity, this year the exhibit will host five artists. Featured artists for this exhibit are Jessica Bardsley, Stacey DeMott, Jean Donrevil, Christina Miller, and Jarrett Stinchcomb — all painters.

The Art League’s Scholarship program was developed in 1983 to provide funding to junior and senior high school students of Collier County who wish to continue their education in the visual arts. In 1983 the program started with $500; since 2002, through dedicated donations and fundraising efforts over $80,000 in awards have been distributed.

The applicants to the scholarship program are required to submit a body of work, three pieces, that are judged by three instructors who teach at the Center for the Arts. All work submitted becomes part of the Applicants Exhibit, held each year in April. Traditionally there are over 75 applicants to the Scholarship program annually.

However, since they are high school students, the applicants exhibit does not allow for the sale of the art; hence the creation of “Art Noveau.” Art Noveau provides the past award winners with this special opportunity to exhibit and sell their works.

Bring a friend, meet the artists, mingle among the guests, and enjoy the festive wine and hors d’oeuvre reception. All works will be for sale. Open to the public. Admission to the reception is free for members of the Art League, Center for the Arts. A $5 fee is charged for guests. The exhibit runs through Aug. 4.

The Art League, Marco Island’s Center for the Arts is a nonprofit organization located at 1010 Winterberry Drive. Summer hours are 1 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only.
