The 36th annual Marco Eagle Open didn’t see a lot of birdies on Saturday. Either scored by the 96 golfers, or the flying kind as everyone took cover during a bitter rain storm.
The storm and potential lightening caused the sirens at the Island Country Club to beckon all the golfers in after eight or nine holes. Since not all golfers had completed the same number of holes there were no awards given out. There were, however, plenty of raffle prizes provided by a slew of sponsors.
Participants, sponsors and Open Committee members enjoyed an early lunch.
Dick Shanahan, committee chairman, thanked everyone for a successful fundraiser, the longest running golf charity event believed to be held in Collier County.
Committee members included Shanahan, Debra Sanders, George Schroll, Mary Quinton, Betty McGilvray, George Abounader, Roger St. George, Bob Holm, Wanda Day, Dave Klein and Tony Ionatta.
Members of the two Rotary Club also assisted.
Funds raised go to local charities and the Macro Island Charter Middle School.
