Fort Myers company chosen to construct FGCU building

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. has been chosen to construct phase one of Florida Gulf Coast University’s new Fine Arts Building 2.

The building will be near the existing arts complex building on the FGCU campus and will house the Bower School of Music and the visual and performing arts program.

The first phase of construction will focus primarily on the music program needs. Construction will include a lobby reception area, music classrooms, practice rooms, 210-seat recital hall, offices for faculty and an instrument storage room.

The project will be constructed utilizing green building practices, and construction managers will seek LEED certification through the U.S. Green Building Council.

The Owen-Ames-Kimball team for this project will include Scott Reynolds, job site superintendent; Leo Smith, project manager; and Patrick Conran, vice president of operations and general superintendent.

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. has provided premier general contracting, design-build and construction management services in Southwest Florida since 1982. The company has offices in Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties. Its Lee County office is at 11941 Fairway Lakes Drive in Fort Myers.

Two Naples associations will unite for art festivals/

The Downtown Naples Association (DNA) will partner with the Naples Art Association (NAA) to annually produce two fine art festivals on Fifth Avenue South. For 21 years, the DNA has orchestrated nationally ranked fine art festivals on Fifth Avenue South. “This is an outstanding opportunity. Both organizations are committed to the advancement of the arts, culture and ambiance of Downtown Naples.” said Lisa Swirda, Executive Director of the Downtown Naples Association.

“I’m delighted with the new partnership between the Downtown Naples Association and the Naples Art Association,” stated Mayor Bill Barnett. This collaboration will benefit our residents, visitors and merchants,” said Mayor Bill Barnett.

The NAA brings more than 31 years of experience in producing world-class festivals. The Naples National Art Festival, the crowning jewel of the NAA’s yearly festival line up, has been ranked #5 in the country by Sunshine Artists Magazine.

“We are proud to partner with the DNA and look forward to our first collaboration in March 2010” said Joel Kessler, Executive Director of The von Liebig Art Center / Naples Art Association. “Joining forces makes complete sense,” added Cathy Christopher, Chair of the DNA Board of Directors. “These cultural exhibitions are among the most successful in Collier County. We will work together to further develop and enhance these outstanding events.”

Program to help avoid claims

The Southwest Florida Employers Association will host “Avoiding Claims of Discrimination” on Thursday, June 18 at the North Naples United Methodist Church from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

The program will be presented by Labor and Employment Attorney Damian Taylor of Hazzard, Coleman and Taylor.

Damian will discuss legal considerations when making employment related decisions, preventative measures to put in place immediately and responding effectively if a claim is reported.
