Smoke bellows from East Naples gas station

Smoke bellowed from a garbage truck parked near the Shell gas station on SR-951 near Manatee Road at about 8 a.m., Thursday, reported city public information coordinator Lisa Douglass. Isles of Capri Fire Rescue and East Naples Fire Rescue departments responded to the incident, which led to smoke bellowing from the area just south of U.S. 41 for nearly an hour, reported Marco Island Deputy Chief Chris Byrne. East Naples community relations officer Greg Spears reported that the truck hadn’t actually caught fire, but a tremendous amount of smoke was coming from the engine area with cause not specifically known.
