American Legion Post 303: Flag Day on Post’s radar

Hello again to all our members and friends. June is here and along with it the “dreaded” hurricane season. I’ll say a prayer for all of us that we stay safe throughout.

First, a thank you to all that attended our beautiful service for Memorial day, at Riverside Park. The aisle of flags was breathtaking as usual. Thank you Commander Slachta, Post 388, Commander Prentki, Post 303 and Commander Freetag, Post 4254. Great job.

Our June schedule has changed some, so please mark your calendar as so. Sometimes there are changes during the month, so it may behoove you to drop by the Post and check out the giant calendar. You can also pick up a calendar to put up on your fridge. Plus, it’s good to just stop by anyway. We have dropped our Tuesday evening moolah game, it will only be played on Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. Bingo is still played on Wednesday and Sunday nights at 7. Please support our games, it helps support your Post.

Chef Deb’s lunches for the month of June will be served Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with regular menu plus a daily special. Served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. On Friday nights will be her always delicious fried or grilled fish or shrimp dinners. Saturday night is, of course steak night. All complete dinners and are served 5 to 7 p.m. I might mention, everyone raves about her liver ‘n onions special on the Wednesday lunch menu. In fact all her meals are special. She serves a great breakfast on Sunday morning from 8 a.m. until noon. Don’t forget Sunday June 21 is Father’s Day. If you are a “303 Dad,” you will eat free.

On June 14th, Flag Day, we will hold a flag disposal ceremony at 1 p.m. This is on a Sunday, so you may want to come for breakfast and stay for this very moving ceremony. If you have never attended this before, it is proper way to dispose of American flags that have become worn. If you have such a flag on hand you can bring it past the Post and you can be sure, it will have a dignified disposal.

American Legion and Auxiliary Constitutional Conferences will be held at Punta Gorda post 103, on Saturday, June 6. Auxiliary at 8 a.m. and men at 1 p.m. This is very important as it is where the new district officers are elected. Good luck to those seeking office. Your presence will be greatly appreciated. The date for our installation will also be decided that day.

Just got word on our Friday night line-up for live music, on June 5 is Robin and Dean, June 12 is Mike King, June 19 is Nevada and on June 26 is Cindy Crawley. The music usually starts around 7 p.m. So come enjoy a nice dinner and shake a leg to one of the above.

An added note, I want to give a shout-out to Jerry’s dry cleaners, a long established service in the Naples area, they are taking on the gigantic job of dry-cleaning our 100 flags, that are displayed in our aisle of flags at each Memorial and Veterans Day. This is their contribution to all the veterans, past and present. What a wonderful thing for them to do. Needless to say, please support Jerry’s with any dry-cleaning you may have to have done. And while you are there, give them a big thanks.

Don’t forget Flag Day, and happy Father’s Day to all fathers, the ones still with us and the ones we have lost. Keep all the young men and women serving in the Armed Forces, in your daily prayers. Also all the veteran’s present and past, a prayer of thanks to them. We are a land of the free, because of the brave.
