Ago in the Eagle...

“The children’s welfare has become a political issue,” said a tearful Barbara Boyd on Tuesday after the Collier County Commission voted 4-1 against allowing a day care center in the Marco Highlands. Boyd and her husband Richard had sought a provisional use permit that would have allowed them to care for a maximum of 45 children in a residential home on Third Avenue, but opposition was apparently the reason commissioners vetoed the plan. Boyd accused commissioners of bowing to political pressure, claiming Commissioner John Pistor of Marco voted against the center after such pressure was applied. Pistor said, “There was absolutely no truth” in Boyd’s charge, saying, “I’ll take a lie detector test about that.”
