MARCO ISLAND — Brigitte Strauss, 59, of Graz Austria, who was arrested by Marco Island police after she was seen fleeing the Marco Marriott on May 26, had a public defender enter a written plea of not guilty during her arraignment in Collier County court Monday morning.
Strauss was witnessed on surveillance video stealing jewelry from the store, Jewelry by Laura, located inside the Island hotel.
Police discovered she planned to depart for Germany at 6 a.m. the next day. She was ordered to turn over her passport and prohibited from traveling. She has been out of jail on $5,000 bond since June 1. Strauss was not present for her arraignment with Judge Frederick Hardt 8:15 a.m., Monday, for charges of grand theft.
She was issued a notice to appear in court with the sounding to be continued 9 a.m. July 2 with Judge Franklin Baker.
