Lori Grisko, left, has lived on Marco Island for many years and loves our Pardise Island and year-round warmth but missed the picturesque snowfalls and sparkling frosts of her native western suburb of Chicago. So why not have a mural painted on the door of her condo of a winter snow scence with a walk way to the beach? Lori searched and researched and discovered a wonderful local artist, Carolyn Burger, right, at the recent Esplanade Art show. Grisko lives close to Residents’ Beach and frequently walks there.
Burger says, “This was a wonderful experience working with Lori, to create a scene that would remind her of beautiful snowfalls in Chicago plus sunny beaches on Marco Island.
To see the scene coming together was truly magical, says Lori Grisko. The snow falling on the naked trees combined with the darling girl holding her hat on the walkway to the beach past the swaying palm tree ... remarkable, she adds. The walkway in the mural was designed after the walkway at Residents’ Beach while the trees and snowy scene was inspired by a Christmas card that Grisko received from her niece, Linda, this past Christmas season.
I am so glad to have the opportunity to create a painting that Lori can enjoy every day.
Burger frequently paints outdoors with the Marco Island Plein Air Painters but this was the first time she painted a mural indoors. Carolyn is a member of the Marco Island Center For the Arts, the Marco Island Foundation For The Arts and the Von Leibig Art Center in Naples. Her work can be seen on her Web site at carolynburger.com. She makes her home on Marco Island from October to May.
Burger and her husband, Ron, are preparing to return to Ohio for the summer months.
