Artist Jo-Ann Sanborn, left, presents door prize winner Kathleen Rinaldo with one of her paintings during the luncheon.

The Marco Island Yacht Club’s recent monthly “ladies luncheon” featured the island’s own popular artist, Jo-Ann Sanborn-Frettoloso.

Jo-Ann is a wonderfully talented painter who depicts the Florida landscape with the use of uncommon colors and bold shapes, making her work easily recognizable.

Her love for the Everglades is reflected by many of her pieces of artwork.

Once you become familiar with her interpretations of the Everglades, you will appreciate her talent as you drive down Route 41 South taking in the splendor of the natural environment of the Everglades.

Jo-Ann gave the ladies a demonstration of how her artwork is created; all the while telling stories of how she became involved in art.

Seems it sparked an interest in her when in the third grade she won first prize in a safety poster contest. She started to seriously discover her artistic talents after her children were grown, and now has more than 40 years of experience of working with acrylics.

Jo-Ann teaches workshops and also maintains a daily blog. She hosts a “table talk” luncheon monthly for professional artists.

She is a member of the Florida Arts Group, as well as the National Association of Women Artists — who recently honored her with an award at their annual show.

It was held in May at the Salmugundi Club in New York City.

The artwork of Jo-Ann Sanborn is highly sought after by both private and corporate collectors and hangs in numerous collections throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe, including right here on Marco Island at City Hall.

Jo-Ann is actively involved in the Marco Island Foundation for the Arts where she is chairperson of ArtQuest 2010; bringing sculptures to public places on Marco.

After a delicious lunch of grilled chicken breast on top of baby greens with a balsamic reduction dressing and yummy raspberry sorbet for dessert, Jo-Ann was gracious to give a “door prize” to a lucky lady in attendance.

The lucky winner was Kathleen Rinaldo, who was thrilled to start her own Jo-Ann Sanborn collection!
