— Marco Island City Council Chairman Robert Popoff and City Manager Steve Thompson received a check from Sandi Lazarus, Executive Director of the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce. The check represents the fundraising effort that has been going on for months to fund the annual firework display.

The City of Marco Island celebrates our nation’s birthday each year like many communities across the Country. The colors red, white and blue symbolize the strength, dedication, resolve and sense of community our nation showcases to the world. These colors are proudly displayed with our American flag during times of triumph, sadness, loss, and celebration. Patriotism touches everyone young and old. It demonstrates the bond each American feels for their country. That bond is evident on Marco Island this year as the economic times and budget constraints threatened the celebration of the 4th of July’s annual fireworks display. Proving that together, Americans can do anything, local business and citizens jumped into action raising $25,225.75 dollars to ensure a celebration to remember.

Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce for their help in receiving the money that was donated, the raffle items and their overall spearheading efforts. The check presented today represents a community working together for a common goal. The City would like to recognize our sponsors:
