A big thank you to the Forensic Audit Committee, The James Moore Co., and City Council which hopefully, means big changes for the way our city finances will be accounted for in the future.
I believe I can speak for many other island residents when I say this will give us all a lot more confidence in the city’s financial reports when these recommended changes are made.
I think the “growing pains” this city has gone through have caused a lot of people to lose faith, but this is a good step in the right direction.
We cannot lay the past to rest, until we deal with the issues that have divided us in so many ways and this will give us a fresh start in at least one area.
Our new finance director starts with a clean slate and we have confidence in her integrity and willingness to put a plan into action to implement the changes needed. In fact, from experience, she may have some changes of her own to implement.
We don’t need mass communications of unnecessary information, just to know that the information provided to council is accurate and up to date and if there are problems that they will be brought out in the open to be dealt with. Time will tell and residents will be watching to see what happens now.
