EAGLE i: Capt. Brien’s wins first game in city softball loop

Cocomo’s moved a half-game ahead of Almost Famous Mel’s and Capt. Brien’s won its first game in the City Men’s Softball League.

Cocomo’s downed DaVinci’s, 14-5, with Scott Gibbs rapping out four hits, Mike Watkins and Dan Noyes, added three hits each, with Rich Busch, Brian Day, Sean Shea and Niels Stone contributing two hits each, with Stone crunching a home run.

Mike Radlovacki led DaVinci’s with three hits, while Bob Natale Sr. and Mike Graczyk chipped in with two hits each.

Mel’s had a bye, which gives Cocomo’s the league lead at 7-1, while Mel’s is 6-1.

St. Mark’s remained in third place with a 12-2 win over Nacho Mama’s. St. Mark’s was led by Mark Canady with three hits, including a home run, followed by Donny Montroy and Rick Hanscom with two hits each.

Nacho Mama’s Greg Curry, John Stillwagon, and Jeff Smith led their team in hitting.

Capt. Brien’s won a squeaker, 17-16, over Joey’s Pizza for its first win. Jerry Bonfitto, Luke Vergo, Liam Dillon, Jimmy Bonfitto and Joe Valencic slapped out two hits each, with Valencic slamming a home run.

Joey’s Charlie Holder, Tony and Joe Olivero each knocked out three hits, with Travis Reid, Santo Gentile and Steve Pahr adding two hits each.

The standings are: Cocomo’s, 7-1, Mel’s, 6-1, St. Mark’s, 5-2, DaVinci’s, 5-3, Joey’s, 2-5, Nacho Mama’s and Capt. Brien’s, each 1-6.
