Marco Island Police Briefs: March 10, 2009

MARCO ISLAND — Unlicensed driver

A vehicle was stopped for an equipment violation near Bluebird Avenue and North Collier Boulevard at 3:15 p.m., March 2. The driver, Jose Lucio-Mejia, 48, of 638 Sixth Avenue, Marco Island, was arrested and charged for not being licensed to drive. Lucio-Mejia was released on a notice to appear in court.

Battery

Police responded to a disturbance at 1062 Hartley Avenue, at 10:08 p.m., March 2. Victim Elmer Ramos was reportedly struck several times by Juan D. Parra, 46, also a resident of 1062 Hartely Avenue. Parra was arrested, taken to jail and charged with battery.

DUI

A vehicle was stopped when police saw the driver commit a traffic offense near 1300 North Collier Boulevard, at 7:07 p.m., March 3. Charles James Beck, 51, of 1530 Mainsail Drive Unit 2, Naples, was charged with DUI. Beck was taken to jail.

Theft of package

It was reported that a package was taken from the mail room at Sandpiper Condominiums, 850 South Collier Boulevard, between 11:30 a.m. March 2 and 3 p.m. March 3. The package was valued at approximately $138.

Theft of skateboard

A skateboard valued at about $250 was reported stolen from the YMCA, 101 Sandhill Street, between 1:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. March 6.

Possession of Marijuana

There was a noise complaint at 1067 Hartley Avenue, 1:25 a.m., March 8. Daniel Blake Ford, 20, of 143 Bermuda Drive, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. He was issued a notice to appear in court and released at the scene.
