Celebrities galore played in the 13th annual Tony Lema Memorial Pro-Am Golf Tournament on March 12. Joe DiMaggio, Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, TV star Jim Garner and broadcaster Joe Garagiola were among the celebs who joined golfers Ken Venturi, Tommy Bolt, Bobby Nichols, Bruce Lietzke and more to play at the Marco Island Country Club. Marco Island Airways had a fleet of charter planes available to handle the celebs.

Goodland Inc., the firm supplying residents of the island fishing village with water has won county approval to install an 11,000-foot temporary pipeline from near Barfield Drive to Goodland. County Commissioners granted the request after Utilities Director Irving Berzon reported that some residents complained of being out of water over the weekend. In the past Goodland Inc. trucked water to the village. Berzon said the temporary pipeline would save the company money and insure adequate water supply. The county is working on a plan to supply Goodland with potable water, using a 10-inch pipeline from Barfield Drive to the village.

Eleanor Musarra sank her fist hole-in-one, using a nine iron on the 95-yard approach from the ladies tree on the sixth hole. Her husband Joseph is still the family champ in aces with six.

Nearly $2 million in new model residences, including 11 homes and seven luxury condominiums, will be on display in Marco Island’s first annual. Home and Condominium Show on March 18.
