Lisa Meurgue, who is fighting cancer, has put together a fashion show scheduled for March 18 at the restaurant she and her husband Denis manage and operate, Bistro Soleil at Olde Marco. Proceeds of the show will benefit the American Cancer Society.

My name is Lisa Meurgue and I am currently battling (and beating) breast cancer.

I am a 46 year old mother of three daughters, wife and managing a new restaurant which opened here in December.

My prognosis is good and I am winning this battle. We are trying to live as normal a life as possible during this trying time of trips to Tampa and to Naples for chemo.

In addition to my personal battle, I lost my sister to ovarian cancer at the tender age of 43 in Sept., 2006.

My father is a survivor for over 17 years now. My prognosis is good and I am winning this battle.

I would love for people to see that early detection is key (I found my lump myself — just two months after my annual mammogram which showed no signs of cancer)

I would also like women to know that no one knows your body better than you.

I am writing to announce a fashion show we will be doing on Marco Island at 11 a.m., March 18, benefitting the American Cancer Society, specifically our team for the relay — “The Tour for a Cure”.

Patrick Nolan of Fox 4 News, will be the emcee for the event.

The fashion show will be conducted by Marco Island Clothing Company. It will be at Bistro Soleil, and my husband will be doing lunch.

The ticket price is $40, with a portion of the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Unfortunately, our relay does not get as much publicity as the Fort Myers or Naples Relays. But, we are “the little island that could.”

Our island relay may be small in size but we still raise a lot of money — about $100,000 each time.

Our team has raised more than $55,000 since Relay the started on Marco.

The Marco Relay will take place March 27 and 28. To reserve places for the luncheon and fashion show, call 642-7277 (Marco Island Clothing). Reservations are essential, and deadline is March 17.
