Short term-rentals illegal
Please let the residents of Marco know what is going on with the Planning Board. The city attorney and the chairman of the Planning Board admitted that short-term rentals in single family neighborhoods are illegal (In violation of Chapter 509).
Perhaps that is why only two resort dwellings are registered with the state even though there are thousands of these rentals. After we continually told the city for seven years that it is not legal, the city now admits it is not legal. So all the stalling by the city with ad hoc committees and endless continuances was just a ploy to buy time with the hope that those of us who have been subjected to this rental abuse would just go away. And how do they want to make it up to Marco residents? They want to re-zone Marco to make it all commercial so that it will be legal to have a ‘hotel house,’ or the Marriott or any business in single-family neighborhoods.
Those residents who did not speak up about this problem because they didn’t think it would affect them should know now that it does affect them. This is an outrage and must be stopped. Our home is our sanctuary and residents who have chosen to buy or build their home in a single-family residentially zoned neighborhood need protection from this injustice. Please advise the public of the next Planning Board Meeting.
Thank you for your assistance in keeping residents informed.
