As we near the end of the season, we pay homage to those that have sacrificed their time to make this season a success.

The coaches. Coaching youth sports entails more than just showing up. As George Halas, Hall of Fame coach of the Chicago Bears, observed, “What makes a good coach? Complete dedication!”

That is why we salute our 2009 coaches for their time and dedication to Optimist Club Soccer players:

Kindergarten-first grade: Bill Morris, Tony Smith, Cheryl Toth and Jim Watt.

Second-third grade: Connie Lathrop, Terese Glasser, Michelle Jordan, Greg West and Ben Sprankle.

Fourth-fifth grade boys: John Patterson, Mike Vanderjagt, Jim Young and Joe Bartos.

Fourth-fifth grade girls: Patty Poling, Lori Lopez and Susan Schiller.

Sixth-eighth grade boys: Fred Kramer, Gary Grisko and Adam Koszo.

Sixth-eighth grade girls: John Patterson, Audrey Darling and Tony Smith.

We also salute the MVPs for week 7.

Kindergarten-first grade: Jake Glasser, Ryan Toth, Eddie Perez, Tyler Chute, Austin McDuffie, Jonathan Watt, Jack Smith and Matthew Vergo.

Second-third grade: Jason Lang, Dustin Noel, Brian Kocak, Jason Ginther, Jillian Pepitone, Bryce Elhen, Andrew Sprankle and Cooper Nettles.

Fourth-fifth grade boys: Jonathan Kriqi, Cody Young, Colin McMullen, Zach Richey, Amelio Nazarko, Kyle Leonia, Kyle Bartos and Zach Pollard.
