While there are games next week, ADKOS and Bertram’s Orthopedics have won their divisions in the Marco Island Men’s Senior Softball league.

ADKOS stumbled a bit at the end, but had built up such a huge lead it won the Marco Division. Bertram’s won three straight games to pull away for the Island Division title.

Here are the results of the eighth week, with games reported in order of being played in each division.

ISLAND DIVISION

Bertram Orthopedics, 12, Nacho Mama’s, 6

Bertram’s scored five runs in the first and third innings, cruising to its 14th win. Art Weins had five RBIs, four coming on a grand slam home run in the third. John Cavanagh had a three-run homer in the first, while Herm Griffith had three hits and one RBI. Ray Niemeyer and Tom Angelo had two hits, with Jimmy Cuevas driving in two runs for Nacho Mama’s.

Cedar Bay, 11, Sand Bar, 7

Cedar Bay’s Ken Planck, Craig Cunningham, Mike Hopkins, Murph Knapke and winning pitcher Jerry Cnudde had two hits each, while Cunningham, Hopkins, and Knapke each had two RBIs. Sand Bar’s Tom Pugh, Denny Lello and Joe Cervelli each had two hits, with Cervelli driving in three runs. Cnudde had a triple for Cedar Bay, while Tom Pugh and Ron Shudes had triples for Sand Bar.

Cedar Bay, 7, Nacho Mama’s, 6

In a pitcher’s duel Jerry Cnudde bested Jack O’Brien. Cedar Bay’s Bill Shurina and Dick Knothe each had three hits, with Jim George having a key two-RBI triple. Tom McCullough had three hits, including a triple and three RBIs for Nacho Mama’s. Teammate Rich Krumholz had three hits and one RBI.

Bertram Orthopedics, 11, Sand Bar, 5

Bertram’s clinched the Island Division championship with the win. John Cavanagh and Dave Banghart each had key hits. Cavanagh slammed a three-run home run and knocked in four runs. Banghart blasted a triple and plated two runs. Herman Griffith cracked a pair of doubles. Tom Pugh went 4-for-4 for Sand Bar, with Ron Peterson hitting a solo home run, and Pete Oellrich knocking in two runs on two hits.

Bertram Orthopedics, 15, Cedar Bay, 0

Bertram’s was like a category five hurricane, wiping out Cedar Bay in a mercy rule game, ending after seven innings. The pitching duo of Ron Engels and Bill Kaschube limited Cedar Bay to six hits, with two from Paul Shelton. John DeRosa drove in all the runs Bertram’s needed with a bases-loaded double, plating three runs. Dave Banghart went 4-for-4, including a two-run home run, driving in three RBIs. Engels had three RBIs and Herm Griffith two RBIs.

Nacho Mama’s, 8, Sand Bar, 4

Ron Hobson had a solo home run and drove in three runs to help Nacho earn its win. Jimmy Cuevas, Tom McCullough, Dom Fiorda, Dave Coward, John Barrett, Rich Krumholz, Jim Green and Dave Coward all had two hits each in support of winning pitcher Jack O’Brien. Ed Kingsbury drove in all four of Sand Bar’s runs, going 4-for-4 at the plate. Ron Peterson had three hits, with Tom Pugh and John Luegering having two hits each.

MARCO DIVISION

Marco Community Bank, 14, Cocomo’s, 4

The Bank rolled over Cocomo’s, scoring six runs in the fourth and five in the seventh. It was a team effort, with 12 players each having an RBI, led by Butch Coursen who had three RBIs on a bases-loaded triple. Dave Strohman had three hits and Charley Zimmer two RBIs for Cocomo’s.

Capt. Brien’s, 9, ADKOS, 8

Capt. Brien’s won in extra innings when Jake Jacobson stroked his second hit of the game, driving in the winning run. Jim Dorey and Lou Wolfenson each had three hits, with Dorey driving in two runs and Wolfenson slamming a solo home run. Dan Stanard had two RBIs for Capt. Brien’s.

ADKOS George Schnorr and Jack Mateja each had four hits, two RBIs and a home run. Pete Baker had three hits and a RBI.

Rookies, 8, Crazy Flamingo, 7

Trailing by two runs going into the bottom of the last inning, Rookies rallied behind a two-run home run by John Remhoff and a game-winning RBI double by Al Bozzo.

Remhoff also had a triple and another RBI. John Arceri and Ron Burger had two RBIs, with Jack Stevenson hitting a solo home run for Flamingo.

ADKOS, 14, Rookies, 5

ADKOS clinched the Marco Division title behind the stellar pitching of Jerry Garrett and the hitting of George Schnorr.

Garrett recorded his 17th win, limiting Rookies to eight hits. Schnorr had three hits and five RBIs with four coming on a grand slam home run. George Kirk drove in two runs on two hits. Rookies John Remhoff, Bill Himsel and Dean Lambros each had two hits, with Remhoff and Himsel cracking triples.

Capt. Brien’s, 12, Marco Community Bank, 3

Capt Brien’s sailed to an easy win behind the hitting and pitching of Lou Wolfenson. Wolfenson, Bill Moors, Jim Dorey and Jake Jacobson each had two hits, with Wolfenson stroking a triple. Chuck Wilson, Fred Toxopeas and Jim Adams each had two hits for the Bank.

Crazy Flamingo, 19, Cocomo’s, 4

Flamingo’s crushed Cocomo’s with five players each collecting three hits. In addition to their hits, Ralph Leiterding had a three-run homer and four RBIs, Paul Burnett, Fred Kramer and Ron Burger two RBIs and Jack Stevenson one. Jack Mateja had two hits and three RBIs. Jim Monnier had a two-run triple for Cocomo’s.

ISLAND DIVISION STANDINGS

Bertram Orthopedics, 16-7, Nacho Mama’s, 12-11, Cedar Bay, 10-13 and Sand Bar, 8-15.

MARCO DIVISION STANDINGS

ADKOS, 17-4, Rookies, 14-7, Capt Brien’s, 10-11, Marco Community Bank, 9-12, Crazy Flamingo, 7-14 and Cocomo’s, 6-15.
