Lely notches first baseball win

Tanner pitches way to 1-0 victory

Lely won its first game of the season, 1-0 over Immokalee on Friday.

Ian Tanner pitched a very good game, with 10 strikeouts, two walks and gave up just two hits.

The defense played extremely well, with no errors and turned a couple of double plays.

Offensively we hit a good seven or eight balls real hard, but right at someone. It was a case of a little bad luck as far as the ball finding a hole.

Ian also had two hits and Nick Thorstenson had two hits, with Nick driving in the lone run.

It was a good win for us, but we still have a lot to work on. The sophomores need to pick it up again, with the exception of Max Tyler who has played well all year and is our leading hitter.

A down side to the game was our base running. We ran ourselves out of four or five runs by making bad decisions, all of which we worked on Saturday morning. Some of it is inexperience and some of it is not listening to the coaches or picking them up as they run the bases. We also have to do a better job of picking up signals at the plate. We are still missing too many.

Lely is now 1-4. It resumes play at Community School tonight at 7.

The Lely JV team walloped Immokalee, 8-0. Marco’s Kit Fowler was near perfect. He pitched a no-hitter, striking out nine batters and did not give up a base on balls. The only Immokalee runner got on base on an error. The JV team plays at 4 today at Community School.
