Law enforcement appreciation, understanding

Saturday was graduation day for the first (hopefully, not last) Citizen’s Police Academy on Marco Island. The refreshments, and particularly the cake, were great, and the certificate of achievement is something I will proudly display.

But the academy wasn’t about preparing for a celebration; it was about acquiring an understanding of what our police department does, and meeting the men and women of the department who serve our community.

I think we all learned a lot, and I hope other Island residents have the opportunity to benefit the way we did.

Personally, I want to thank Police Chief Tom Carr, Captain Dave Baer, and all of the officers who participated in the program.
