— Dogs got pampered and treated to a wash and comb by Marco teens, Sunday at Kretch’s Restaurant on Bald Eagle Drive.

Victoria DiSciullo and her friend Alessea Lane were co-chairs and hosts of Marco’s first Dog Wash to benefit the Humane Society Naples.

Students at the Marco Island Charter Middle School, including Natasha Gengenbach, Jennifer Schoen, Briana Anguilano, Victoria DiSciullo, Lane and Sina Hauber washed, spruced up several dogs.

They washed 16 dogs in the late morning into mid-afternoon Sunday and raised $421 for the Humane Society Naples. People also came by without dogs to make donations of money, dog food and biscuits.

The girls would like to thank the following: Ellen Kretschmer from Kretch’s for the use of her driveway, water and hose; Bill McMullan for getting the word out through his Web site and e-mails; Sheila Martin, Owner of Pampered Paws, for her donation of shampoo, dog treats and bags; and of course to the beautiful, well-behaved dogs who allowed the girls to wash them.

The parents are proud of their girls for coming up with the idea on their own and for enlisting their friends to raise money for the Humane Society. Victoria and her mom, Terri DiSciullo, volunteer there, and say it is a great organization that puts the donations to very good use. Humane Society Naples doesn’t hold fundraisers here on Marco, so Victoria thought she should make a start, she said.

“It was a great success.”
