The Marco Island Men’s Senior Softball League wrapped up its season, with Cedar Bay winning two games that almost put them in second place.

A Marco Division all-star team, going against Bertram’s Orthopedics, the Island Division champs, highlighted the end of regular-season activities. The league is having playoffs now.

Here are the results of the final regular-season week.

ALL-STAR GAME

Bertram Orthopedics, 16, Marco Division All-Stars, 8

Bertram’s just had to much fire power in its lineup. Dave Banghart went 5-for-5 and Herm Griffith smacked two home runs, accounting for five RBIs. Art Weins and John Cavanagh had three hits, and two RBIs each, while John DeRosa had two hits and two RBIs. The All-Stars Roger Wise and Jim Dorey each had three hits and Chet Dal Bianco had three RBIs. John Remhoff’s bases-loaded double scored all the base runners, including himself on a wild throw to home plate. Butch Coursen and Chuck Wilson each had two hits for the All-Stars.

ISLAND DIVISION

Nacho Mama’s, 13, Bertram Orthopedics, 7

Nacho Mama’s Jim Green, Ray Niemeyer, and Tom Angelo slapped out three hits each, with Green and Angelo having two RBIs. Teammates Jimmy Cuevas and John Barrett had two RBIs, and Tom McCullough drove in three runs. Bertram’s Larry Anspach, Bernie Seidman, Herm Griffith, and John Cavanagh each had two hits and a RBI, and John DeRosa knocked in two runs.

Cedar Bay, 21, Sand Bar, 9

Cedar Bay turned the first triple play of the season when Dick Knothe took a hard grounder, stepped on third and tossed to Paul Sheldon at second, who relayed the throw to Bill Shurina at first.

Cedar Bay bats erupted for 29 hits after failing to score a run in its last game. Jim George and Ken Planck each had four hits. Bill Thompson, Murph Knapke, Bill Shurina, Dick Knothe and winning pitcher Jerry Cnudde each had three hits.

Knapke had four RBIs, Mike Hopkins, Craig Cunningham, Planck and Thompson had three RBIs, and Shurina two. Ron Peterson had four hits and four RBIs for Sand Bar, while teammates Tom Pugh and John Luegering knocked out two hits each, accounting for two RBIs.

Cedar Bay, 9, Nacho Mama’s 7

Ken Planck had four hits and three RBIs, including a two-run home run for Cedar Bay. The win helped Cedar Bay finish in third, just one game behind Nacho Mama’s. Teammates Jim George and Bill Thompson had four hits each, with George driving in the winning run in extra innings and Planck driving in an insurance run. Paul Shelton had two hits and three RBIs in support of winning pitcher George. Nacho Mama’s Ray Niemeyer and Jim Green each had three hits and a RBI. Jack O’Brien accounted for two runs driven on a triple.

Bertram Orthopedics, 10, Sand Bar, 4

Bob Levasseur had five RBIs, with four coming on a grand slam home run in the fourth inning. Larry Anspach had three hits, including a triple, and Bernie Seidman tripled and drove in two runs for Bertram’s. Ed Kingsbury had four hits and Joe Cervelli three hits, with Denny Lello driving in two runs.

MARCO DIVISION

Rookies, 12, ADKOS, 9

John Remhoff unloaded a two-run homer in the first inning, setting the stage for a Rookies win over first-place ADKOS. Winning pitcher Ed Kopecky and Walt Delaske each had two hits and two RBIs, with Bill Himsel driving in three runs on two hits. ADKOS Chet Dal Bianco had four hits and three RBIs. Fuzzy Fazekas had two hits and two RBIs, while Pat Coraggio drove in one run and had two hits.

Crazy Flamingo, 21, Cocomo’s, 6

The Crazy Bird went wild, causing the 15-run mercy rule at the end of six innings. It scored five runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings and four in the third. There were three home runs, two by Jack Matejahit and one by Ralph Leiterding. Jack Stevenson slammed two triples and Paul Burnett. Mateja hit another, while driving in five runs. Roger Wise had a solo home run, and Chet Dal Bianco and Joe Kruse stroked triples for Cocomo’s.

Marco Community Bank, 15, Capt. Brien’s, 11

Chuck Wilson and Ralph Leiterding had four hits, with Wilson driving in four runs and Leiterding three. Joe Furst had three hits and Bruce Steele three RBIs. Wilson, Furst and Coursen slammed triples for the Bank. Paul Burnett and Jim Dorey hit home runs for Capt. Brien’s, with Dorey knocking in three runs and Burnett two. Teammates Jake Jacobson and Lou Wolfenson had two hits and two RBIs. The teams ended up with identical records, but Marco Community Bank took third place in the Division since its record was 3-2 against Capt Brien’s.

ISLAND DIVISION FINAL STANDINGS

Bertram Orthopedics, 17-8, Nacho Mama’s, 13-12, Cedar Bay, 12-13 and Sand Bar, 8-17.

MARCO DIVISION FINAL STANDINGS

ADKOS, 17-5, Rookies, 15-7, Marco Community Bank and Capt Brien’s, 10-12, Crazy Flamingo, 8-14 and Cocomo’s, 6-16.
