City softball leaders keep winning

The City Men’s Softball League leaders each won to keep the standings close.

Cocomo’s, 8-1 on the season, clubbed Capt. Brien’s, 21-2 and Almost Famous Mel’s, 7-2, edged DaVinci’s, 11-7.

In other action, Nacho Mama’s gained its second win, downing Joey’s Pizza, 23-14.

Cocomo‘s Mike Watkins walloped a grand slam home run, while Curt Withoff, Neil Alberry and Dave Rice ripped out three hits each. Brian Day added two hits as Cocomo’s win keeps it one game in front of Mel’s. Scott Ryan led Capt. Brien’s with two hits.

Chris Quinton slammed out four hits, while teammates Eric Nagel, Justin Hanna, Brian Kocak, Greg St. Amore and Jason Berning added two hits each to lead Mel’s. Mike Radlovacki and Mark Feola, Sr. knocked out two hits each for DaVinci’s.

In Nacho’s win, Jeff Smith had a season-high five hits, including a home run. Vip Grover added three hits and Greg Curry two for Nacho’s. Zach Luektemeyer led Joey’s with four hits, while Tony Oliverio and Jimmy Stephenson chipped in with three hits each and Joe Oliverio and Travis Reid each had two hits.

The standings show Cocomo’s at 8-1, Mel’s, 6-2, St. Mark’s 6-2, DaVinci’s, 5-4, Joey’s, Nacho’s and Capt. Brien’s each 2-7.

Thursday’s games have St. Mark’s playing Capt. Brien’s at 6:15 p.m., followed by Joey’s and DaVinci’s at 7:30 and Nacho’s playing Mel’s at 8:30.
