IT'S YOUR BUSINESS: Business news releases Thursday, March 19, 2009

Downing-Frye Realty, Inc., the largest locally owned and operated real estate brokerage in Naples based on closed sales transactions and sales associates, today announced that it has opened a rental division. The division, housed at Downing-Frye’s local headquarters, assists property owners and tenants with their annual and seasonal rental needs, including single-family homes, condominiums and duplexes.

“We found that there was a growing demand for rental services in the markets we currently serve,” said Mike Hughes, Vice President for Downing-Frye “With the recent increase in foreclosures and short sales, there has been a subsequent need by landlords to generate income for their properties. At the same time, there has been an influx of retirees and first-time homebuyers who are renting property until they can purchase a home.”

The rental division is led by Cassie Williams, ABR/ABRM, and Greg M. Frye, a third generation real estate agent. Both have extensive backgrounds in the real estate business.

Originally from upstate New York, Williams has been in real estate since 1983. A resident of Naples since 1989, Williams is a member of the Real Estate Agency Buyers Council, Naples Area Board of Realtors, Florida Association of Realtors and National Association of Realtors, and serves on several committees for American Cancer Society.

A Naples native, Frye has been practicing real estate since 2001. He is a Broker Associate and is a member of the Naples Area Board of Realtors, Florida Association of Realtors and National Association of Realtors. His knowledge of the real estate market extends to all of South Florida, with Collier County being his primary selling focus.

Headquartered in Naples, Downing-Frye Realty has full-service real estate offices in Naples and Bonita Springs. The Downing-Frye name has been a fixture in Southwest Florida real estate since 1961 and the agency has garnered numerous awards for service. Lee Memorial opens outpatient center

Lee Memorial Health System has opened the new Plantation Road Outpatient Center at 13601 Plantation Road, Fort Myers.

The facility provides convenient non-hospital access for patients with sleep disorders, neurodiagnostics and laboratory services. The Center also serves as the base for Home Health Services related to sleep disorders.

“The Plantation Road facility is an integrated clinical environment offering patients a ‘one-stop shopping’ model for their needs,” said Alan Cunningham, System Director for Respiratory Care, Sleep Disorders, EEG and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

The Sleep Disorders Center at Plantation Outpatient Center provides a safe and comfortable outpatient facility for the diagnosis, and treatment of sleep-related disorders, including sleep apnea, insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness and numerous other sleep disorders.

“Lee Memorial is a pioneer in treating sleep disorders and we have built up a quarter of a century of expertise,” Cunningham said. “Our first sleep lab began operations in 1984. It was the only facility of its kind in Southwest Florida and only the third in all of Florida. The Plantation Road facility is now the area’s premier facility for sleep disorders.”

The Neurodiagnostics division at Plantation Road Outpatient Center specializes in electroencephalograms (EEG), ambulatory EEG, video EEG monitoring, brainstem auditory evoked response, visual evoked response and somatosensory evoked response.

“An outpatient facility like ours is much more comfortable than a hospital environment,” Carol Emmich, Manager of Neurodiagnostics. “This is especially beneficial for children who make up a large percentage of our patients.”

Lee Lab Services has the entire resources of Lee Memorial Health System at its disposal. Patients are assured they receive the finest skilled care available and the added benefit of speedy wait times. Common physician ordered tests handled at the outpatient center include blood counts, cholesterol screens, glucose levels and coagulation studies.

Home Health provides a comprehensive approach to the treatment of sleep disorders. Patients receive follow up care in the comfort of their own home by trained professionals. This provides the peace of mind that treatment is being administered appropriately and the patient is continuing to experience relief.

Open since 1916, Lee Memorial Health System (LMHS) is the fifth largest public health system in the United States and the largest community-owned health system in Southwest Florida. With more than 8,500 employees, LMHS is made up of four acute care hospitals and two specialty hospitals, as well as outpatient centers, walk-in medical centers and primary care physician offices.

The Plantation Road Outpatient Center is located immediately south of Daniels Parkway. For more information, call 239.343.0770 or visit www.LeeMemorial.org.

Inexpensive spring cleaning tips

As you consider spring cleaning, think twice before throwing away citrus peels. It’s a nifty way to save money on cleaning supplies during this sour economy.

“The next time you eat an orange or cook with lemons and limes keep the rinds,” said Rick Joy of the Mr. Rooter of Southwest Florida franchise in a news release. “You can use the peels, along with ice cubes, to clean and deodorize your garbage disposal.”

Odors form when food debris builds up in the garbage disposal. But getting rid of the smell can be a simple and inexpensive spring cleaning project that can save homeowners money.

Mr. Rooter service professionals suggest these steps to clear the air:

Place a cupful of ice cubes as well as citrus peels – oranges, lemons or limes – in the disposal.

Turn on cold water and then the disposal for 15 to 30 seconds.

Then turn off the disposal and continue to rinse with cold water for 15 more seconds.
