Open letter to Florida legislators
We read recently about the rare orchid found in the Fakahatchee. This discovery took place because of the diligent devotion of park biologist Mike Owen and the enthusiastic volunteers who helped him.
Where would our knowledge of this unique place be without the park service and its followers to preserve and nurture it?
We have also heard that the annual Friends of Florida State Parks conference will not take place this year ... there isn’t enough money for park service staff to attend! How can the park service encourage volunteers if they can not meet with them?
In fast-developing Florida it is vital that tourists and residents have unspoilt areas where they can visit for recreation and/or learn about the real Florida.
Please do not cut funding for the Florida Park Service.
